Lupita Nyong'o was named as People Magazine's Most Beautiful person of 2014 yesterday and it doesn't really come as much of a surprise. While she might not have been well known this time last year, the 12 Years A Slave star became the darling of award season for her red carpet looks.
The Mexican actress, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress thrilled with her mixture of styles on the red carpet and soon became a fashion favourite. Despite Hollywood being full of gorgeous stars, People Magazine editorial director Jess Cagle admitted this year there had been "no contest" when it came to picking this year's winner.
"She is fantastic...She's kind of all the rage," he said yesterday, when the choice was revealed on the Today Show in the US. "There was really no contest this year. She seemed like the only choice. Usually there's a lot of debate; this time, we were all in agreement. She's obviously talented, obviously beautiful, she is incredibly stylish, but the way she carries herself with such grace and such humility, I think it's what put her over the top."

Revealing the win had been in the bag for a while, he went on: "I fell in love with her right before the Oscars when she gave a speech at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon, and she spoke really frankly about...having felt unbeautiful when she was a girl.
"And she would pray for lighter skin. She spoke really openly about her journey to embracing the way that she looked, and then ultimately realizing that physical beauty is not what sustains you,"
He added: "I just love her."
