Eastenders' Phil Mitchell visits Deano Wicks and ends up with razor to throat

By Felicity Thistlethwaite

He's the hard-man of Walford but it looks like Phil Mitchell's taken a softer edge in his mature years as he's spotted having his beard tended to at a barber shop.

But all is not what it seems as the barber in question is Deano Wicks, played by actor Matt Di Angelo, last seen the square in February 2008.

Deano's mother is Shirley Carter – Phil's ex-girlfriend – which could have something to do with garage owner's off- piste mission, which is unlikely to just be about men's grooming.

The pair appear to have a confrontation outside the barber shop – which isn't set in Walford Square – and Phil then follows Deano inside and waits while he finishes a haircut.

The gruff tough man then sits in the barber's chair where young Deano proceeds to shave him with a cut throat razor, which is spotted being pressed hard into his throat.

This could mark the return of Deano Wicks, who was spotted visiting his maternal grandfather Stan recently.

There are troubles within the ranks of the Carter family – from Shirley and her father Stan's big bubbling family secret to eldest grandson Lee's troubles with returning to the army.

Why Deano's coming back remains to be seen but there's no sign of his sister Carly.

Of his return to the show, actor Matt said: 'It's such an exciting time for the show and the Carter/Wicks family that I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to reprise the role of Dean! I'm looking forward to getting back on the Square.'

The star's return to the square comes at a time of anguish, when the residents of the London-based fictional town are searching for answers about Lucy Beale's murder.

Executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said the murder was 'a massive story... but it's not our only story,' at the press conference held to discuss the summer's storylines.

He said: 'We are not closing for the summer. We have a huge story coming for the Carters, Shirley, Phil and Sharon, massive stuff for Carol and David, for most of the cast.

'Every single family in EastEnders is going to have their chance to shine but over the next few days you're going to see the Beales shine properly.'
