She's the catwalk queen who has already been through her fair share of controversy.

And it would seem that Cara Delevingne may have always been something of a wild child after new pictures have emerged of her as teenager smoking a suspicious-looking cigarette.

The snaps, taken when the supermodel was just 16, show the schoolgirl puffing away on what appears to be a large roll-up while surrounded by her pals in Hyde Park.

According to the Sunday Mirror newspaper, the shots were taken by a friend after the group attended a 16th birthday party at London's upmarket The Ritz hotel.

In another snap, fun-loving Cara, now 21, is seen brandishing a cigarette in the direction of the camera, while grinning away as she held a bottle of champagne in her other hand.

A third and final candid picture shows the London-born beauty pulling one of her trademark funny faces as she and her pals are surrounded by various smoking paraphernalia.

It is believed Cara, now the face of the likes of Chanel and Burberry, was still a pupil at £10,000-a-year Hampshire private school, Bedales at the time the shots were taken.

A friend of the model told the Sunday Mirror: 'Everyone had been to The Ritz for a 16th birthday dinner, then wandered into the park for some fun.

'Cara was always confident she was going to be a successful model when she left school – that's part of the reason she sort of flunked her GCSEs before she left.

Speaking to Industrie magazine, Cara said last uear: 'It's so hard when you're young and you feel so alone. They talk to me about anything, really – eating disorders, depression, family problems, especially because they know the things that may have gone on in my life, stuff with my mother.

'It's really sweet. It's horrible, the stuff they go through. I try as much as I can to help by saying one little thing like "hello". It cheers them up. It's the coolest. Kids should speak to each other.

'They're horrid to each other online, they bully each other – they should shut up and stop it. The problem with social media is there is too much freedom. It's too much, too young.'

MailOnline has contacted a representative for Cara Delevingne for comment.
